Swimming Hole
The swimming hole and walkway bridge
This cache is located close to one of the popular swimming holes in the Pakuratahi River in the Kaitoke Regional Park. This particular swimming hole is very popular in the summer, with a parking area very close to it, a sandy beach at its edge and a place where the more adventurous kids can jump off the high rocky bank directly above it into the deep water below…not sure what the ‘nanny state’ would think of that.
The swimming hole, sandy beach and jumping spot
The cache is a 400 ml Sistema and at time of placement contained a waterproof log book only. Whilst it is pretty well hidden from view from muggles who are swimming or are on the sandy and stony beach areas below, it is located very close to the route that the jumpers take to where they leap off. If the swimming hole is being used by such people when you want to search for the cache, you may be out of luck in getting a long enough muggle-free window of opportunity. Degree of difficulty has been raised a notch as a result. Please make sure you cover the cache very well when returning it so that it is not visible to stray glances from the many people who will pass close by every summer.
