The New Victoria cinema during construction
The Odeon is one of Bradford’s most loved buildings. Open between 1930 and 2000, the Odeon was once the Gaumont, hosting world-famous acts such as the Beatles, Cliff Richard, Shirley Bassey and Lulu. Opened in 1930 as the New Victoria which was then the third largest cinema in England.
But now this iconic building has a future. For over 20 years it stood empty in the city centre. However the building is now well on the way to being revived as a major music venue which is hopefully going to open late in 2022. The building’s history was too rich for it to be demolished.
