Geocache Description:

Bushes and Fields is a series I am creating showcasing some local HomeBUSH and StrathFIELD green spots, and the history associated.

Each cache holds information you will need to retain should you wish to find the final in this series, http://coord.info/GC5GVF0 (link will only work once published).

Melville Reserve is a popular park, linking to the large Airey Park and close to the Bay to Bay Cyclepath/Walkway.  The park is a corridor of open space providing for pedestrian and cycle movement linking suburbs, shops, parks, schools and workplaces with peoples' homes.  Melville Reserve also contains a children's playground.
Melville Reserve was opened in 1937 and named for solicitor Alexander Melville, an Alderman [1925-1940] and Mayor of Strathfield [1939-40].  Following Melville’s death in 1940, Council dedicated a water bubbler in Melville Reserve to his memory.  The reserve contains many items of interest including WWI War Memorials.  The iron gates on Hampstead Rd and the bridge were dedicated by the ‘people of Flemington’ to commemorate the Great War 1914-1918.  These items are included on Council’s Heritage Register. (Reference: Cathy Jones, Parks, Reserves & Memorials of Strathfield, 2004).

A plaque to acknowledge the adoption of Melville Reserve by Homebush West Public School was dedicated on 6 December 1997.
The cache is a spice jar, appropriately camoed (very well!) - and not big enough for swaps. NO NEED TO ANNOY, ATTACK OR TRAMPLE ANY VEGETATION OF ANY KIND - there's a route to the cache.

While here, check out the bridge over the canal from Melville Reserve. This bridge was erected by the citizens of Flemington to the memory of those who fell in the Great War 1914-1919, please take a moment to remember. You will need to bring your own writing implement. The cache is close to Kurralee Children's Centre, so please take care in selecting the time of day for your search.

Congratulations to the shared FTF by JordsAU, Morry9 and markau about 7.5 hours after publishing... Finally I can stop refreshing to see who gets it! Thanks boys and well done - your dedication and commitment to caching (in the rain!) is appreciated.
