How Geocaching Works

Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

Geocache Description:

Come out and join us in a search for the elusive groundhog, hike the trails, find some new caches, howl at the moon or just meet up with cachers you already know and meet some new ones!  This night caching event happens only once each year at The Wilderness Center and we consider it to be very special!  This is the one and only time when night caching is permitted at TWC!  So come on out and join us for some snacks, caching and geochatting!

Since new GC.COM rules will prohibit logging temps at event caches, we want to offer some loggable permanent caches to the event, so there will be at least 10 new permanent caches on five of the trails.  You may log each of the permanent caches you find, plus the event itself, but only one time.  Some of the permanent caches will have trade items.

The event itself will be rated a 1/1 but some of the temps/pemanent caches will have a highe rating.

We will archive the existing permanent caches on the TWC trails and will place and release new ones on the day of the event.  For this reason, we will not be publishing coordinates ahead of time as we have done in the past.  Instead, we will have two operators "standing by" to load your GPS' at the event.  So if your GPS requires a special cable for loading, please remember to bring it along.  If all else fails, we will have hard copies of the coords available.  There will also be 15-20 (non-loggable) game caches along with a couple of surprises for those attending!

The coordinates listed above are for the check-in point, which will be in the Interpretive Building (IB) at The Wilderness Center in Wilmot, OH.  We will be using the Buckeye Room on the second floor of the building.  Enter the IB through the main doors, go up the stairs and the Buckeye Room will be on your left at the top.  There is also an elevator in the lobby for handicap access.

We are asking our fellow cachers to donate a non-perishable food item or items, or personal supplies-these items will be donated to a local food pantry.  Thank you in advance for your generosity!

The Details:

WHEN:  Saturday, January 31, 2015.  Check in  begins at 5PM but no one on trails until 5:30PM.  (Go out earlier than that and it kind of defeats the purpose of a night cache!)  All caches must be off trails and checked back in by 8:30PM to be eligible for any prizes.

WHERE:  The Wilderness Center, 9877 Alabama Avenue, Wilmot  OH  44689   330-359-5235.

WHAT YOU SHOULD BRING:  A GPS unit, flashlight, pen/pencil, extra batteries for GPS and Flashlight.

OTHER IMPORTANT INFO:  Dress for the weather...snowy, muddy and/or icy trails are par for the course.  Children are welcome but anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult while on the trails.

No reservations or fees required!  Hot chocolate, coffee and water will be provided.  Donations of cookies/brownies/finder foods to share are welcome and appreciated!  There will be a 50/50 drawing to help cover expenses.

ABSOLUTELY NO PETS, ALCOHOL OR FIREARMS AT THIS EVENT!!!

REMINDER:  We will have laptops and operators available to load the coords into your GPA.  If your GPS takes a special cord to connect to a computer, please bring it with you!

When you are done caching and hiking the trails, feel free to come to the Buckeye Room and join us for refreshments, geochatting and prizes!

In case the weather cooperates this year, we are working with the members of the Astronomy Club to have the observatory open and set up telescopes for all who wish to view the winter skies!
