On a nice, clear, sunny day you can see across the rededale valley. This village was originally a mining village for the ironworks also based in this village in the 1800's. So the houses you drive or walk past are as old a 150 years old! You may see behind you there is massive piles of stone, the name the villagers have given them is the heaps and they are piles of stone that couldn't be used to make iron. The castle like building visible from the main road is a foundry what is the only visible building now from when the iron industry. There is also the geocache Ridsdale castle there.
The cache is hidden under a stone in a small dip in the grass with a stone over it. You might want to take a tool that you can lift things with cause when the stone is wet its slippery! This cache may require going through tall grass as this is on the roadside. I can assure you that it is safe to find as there isn't any hidden ditches or dips in the ground so you can't injure yourself.
