In 1870 a route was surveyed from the Boston and Albany Railroad at South Spencer to the center of the village. The issue was brought to a town meeting in 1872 where the idea was voted "to pass over the article." Various other surveys were now made covering this and many other routes. It wasn't brought up again until April 7, 1877, where the article was passed over once again. After several other meetings on the same subject, the town finally, on April 3, 1878, voted to spend approximately $25,000 on building the railroad. In 1878, a 2 1/4 mile railroad was built, connecting Spencer Center with the Boston-Albany Railroad at Spencer Depot NE with the station being at South Spencer. After it was decommissioned and removed, it was tuned into Depot Trail. It now connects Chestnut Street and S. Spencer Road.
This is a small container that you may need tweezers to get the log out. The container does a have small clip on cover to keep it shut. You will need to bring your own pen and please put cache back where it was so it hopefully will not get muggled again.
If you found the original it is in the same general place the original was located.
Congratulations to equinedoc for the FTF.
