This WHERIGO is located on the trail at the Clifton Court Forebay. The body of water was created in 1969 by inundating a 2,200-acre tract as part of the California State Water Project. It serves as the intake point of the California Aqueduct for transport to Southern California.
There is a bike trail that goes around the forebay, but does not go all the way around due to the outlet waters into the Aqueduct. We gave this a 4 terrain rating because you will have to turn around and ride all the way back, a total of 14.5 miles round trip. Parking is available at the end of Clifton Court Rd. off Byron Highway. There are no public vehicles allowed on the forebay. BYOP and plenty of water to drink for the long ride or walk.
Nozy Nabor and I had a run-in with a rent-a-cop on this trail and as a result, we only placed 1 cache. LamLor followed up with the Department of Water Resources and confirmed that the Forebay is public access and we are within our legal rights to bike, walk, stroll, jog, all the way around the forebay and back. The only times there may be a restriction to access over the inlet waters is if they are working there on the gates. The security guards received a stern talking to, so you shouldn't have any issues.
