Geocache Description:

This is a typical cache hidden in a typical geocaching manner and you will need to bring your writing device.  This road does not typically have lots of traffic, but during camping and other times it can be.  There are pull offs or wide shoulders near all the caches, but as always, you will want to be careful.

The original 13 states forming the "United States of America" were established by the Articles of Confederation, ratified on March 1, 1781. The Articles created a loose confederation of sovereign states and a weak central government, leaving most of the power with the state governments. The need for a stronger federal government soon became apparent and eventually led to the Constitutional Convention in 1787. The present United States Constitution replaced the Articles of Confederation on March 4, 1789.

The history of America is closely tied to that of Virginia, particularly during the Colonial period. Jamestown, founded in 1607, was the first permanent English settlement in North America and slavery was introduced there in 1619. The surrenders ending both the American Revolution (Yorktown) and the Civil War (Appomattox) occurred in Virginia. The state is called the “Mother of Presidents” because eight U.S. presidents were born there.  Virginia became the 10th state to ratify the United States Constitution, on June 25th, 1788.
