Geocache Description:

A small series of caches around the Parc Tredelerch conservation and fishing area. The cache is a small container with a couple of items for trade and room for TBs and coins.

Parc Tredelerch was created between 2001 and 2003 on an area previously licensed for tipping waste.  After clearing and landscaping, the park now has a focus on conservation and wildlife and contains nearly 2km of paths around and through it.  Lamby Lake, in the centre of the park, is a 4 hectare lake that stocks a variety of coarse fish including tench, perch, golden rudd and carp.  The boardwalk offers close-up views of some of the swans that call the lake home – be careful with younger cachers as there are no handrails.

Tredelerch is the Welsh name for Rumney, and is a compound of tref and Telerch, which translates to “the farm/holding of Telerch”.  It was probably founded soon after the Norman occupation of Glamorgan, in around 1093.  Lamby was the name of an early settlement in the area.  The first part is from the Old Norse langr, meaning long.  The suffix, originally from byr, means homestead or farmstead.

This cache was placed with kind permission of the Cardiff Parks Ranger Service.
