We were out this way because a birding report last week indicated that 30-35 white tailed hawks had been spotted feeding in this nearby field, along with some caracaras and a couple vultures as company. We had driven out soon after to see if we could see them, but we left the house too late and it got dark before we got out there. We tried again this day, the day after Thanksgiving, not expecting to see the flock of them, but hoping to see at least a couple. We hid this cache while we waited and looked, but the cattle were the only living things moving out here. We drove back on a route that took us past Paul Rushing Park, and we did see one white tailed hawk on the way, so we can cross this one off our list for the year. But, what I have learned from this is that if there is a birding report, it is best to act on it right away - waiting only gives time for the birds to fly away. And, you have to keep your eyes open - blink, and you will miss them.
