Geocache Description:

Stan's Apple Number 02

Welcome to Stan's Apple, 36 mystery geocaches hidden around Stanthorpe, home to the Queensland Geocaching Mega-Event 2015. A variety of geocaches wait, so get solving and organise a trip to the Granite Belt.

In September 2000, the word geocaching became the name for this new GPS-based game as the term 'GPS Stash Hunt' was phased out. The word geocaching comes from two origins and is quite explanatory of the game.

geo- as a prefix comes from the Greek γη or γαια meaning 'earth', usually in the sense of 'ground or land'.

cache is a French word meaning a hiding place to temporarily store items. It also has a similar meaning in computing, whereby data stored in an electronic cache can be accessed faster in future - kind of like short-term memory.

These combinations of 'Earth', hiding and technology encompass the activity excellently and of course, the name has stuck. However there are many other words that begin with geo- and we are going to explore some of these to work out the final co-ordinates for this puzzle geocache.

Below are clues (like a crossword) that will lead you to a word that begins with geo- (think like geology, geometry, Geoff etc.) For each value you will need to remove the geo- and add the values of the rest of the letters together for a single value. Then a quick substitution will have you a set of co-ordinates.

Here's an example:
X: The study of lands, features and phenomena of the Earth

Of course the answer you want is 'Geography'. Remove the geo- and add the rest of the letters together where A=1, B=2, C=3 and so on.

This gives ..G+R+A+P+H+Y. Which would become 7+18+1+16+8+25. Therefor X = 75

Now you try:

A: This bloke might have been a king or a saint
B: A period that began on Hebrew date 4349
C: A bivalve mollusc
D: An orbit with a period of one sidereal day
E: A growth movement by a plant in response to gravity
F: Somewhere between red and yellow in Old English
G: A hollow rock
H = C × 21
I = E ÷ 2

South (A-2)° (B+2).(H-17) East (D-20)° (I+1).(F+20)(G-7)
