Geocache Description:

New Years Resolution Event 2015

When - Saturday January 10th 2015
Where - Cruagh Wood, Co. Dublin
Time - 10.30am Sharp

RouteThis years New Yesrs Resolution Event is taking place in Cruagh Wood in the Dublin Mountains.

Situated to the south of Dublin city Cruagh or Coill Na Craobhai is one of a number of three mountain summits (Kilakee, Glendoo) identified as such on OS maps though it differs little in altitude from its immediate surroundings. At its highest point it is some 522m above sea level and offers probably the best views (weather permitting) over Dublin city and surroundings which lies in the flat plain below.

The reason I choose Cruagh Wood for this years event is becuase the Dublin & Wicklow mountains was one of Alan's (Hezekiah) favorate places to walk. Alan sadly passed away in November, and this years event will be in memory of Alan.

Shorter than our previous events, the loop is an easy 5K with a mix of traditional, muti, and puzzle caches en route. There are currently seven caches on the loop, and a new cache will be published on the morning of the event. After GC47Q7D we will take a short diversion off the loop onto the Cruagh Mountain Access Route to find GC47Q7V.

Of the seven caches on the route, GC47Q90 (The day the music died) needs a bit of work before hand, the rest can be worked out on the route. Don't worry if you have problems working out the puzzle, help will be on hand on the day.

Here is the order in which we will do the caches:

GC47Q64 Have you got the right tine?
GC47Q6J The hills are alive with the sound of music [Puzzle box]
GC47Q6Y Cruagh Cryptek [Stage I]
GC47Q6Y Cruagh Cryptek [Final]
GC47Q7D I lúib na Ccoille Craobhaí
GC47Q7V Half a Click
GC47Q8B Little Dodder
GC47Q90 The day the music died
GC47Q6J The hills are alive with the sound of music [Final]

There will be one more cache to add to the list, but details will only be provided on the day! The walk should take around two hours. While the walk is mainly on paths, please make sure you have the appropriate footware and clothing for the time of year.

After the walk we will be heading to Rathfarnham for refreshments and chat where I have a room booked for 1PM (Available until 6PM so loads of time for geochatting). Venue is located at N 53° 16.877 W 006° 16.560

As most would be aware, the car parks around the mountains can be quite risky. I will most likely try and and find someone (ideally someone who has found all the caches already) to stay behind in the car park and keep an eye on the cars. I'll do it myself if someone else is familer with the route and caches.

Directions

From the city centre, take the N81 south,  direction Blessington. At Terenure continue straight on in the direction of Rathfarnham. The village is bypassed but continue on straight until you reach a right hand junction with a church on one side and  Yellow House pub opposite. Turn right here onto Ballyboden road.  After 2kms or so the road forks with the R116 straight ahead and the R115 to the right. You may reach Cruagh by either route. After approx 4 kms either way you reach the third class road on which Cruagh Wood car park is situated. The R116 is recommended particularly for the fine view of the city below from the viewing point at its junction with the third class road leading to Cruagh Wood.
