King's Wood is an ancient woodland, about a mile north-east of High Wycombe between what were once, the outlying hamlets of Totteridge and Tylers Green. There is an unusually high diversity of fauna and flora for an urban woodland here; over 200 species of flowering plant were recorded back in the 1980s, making this a special haven for wildlife - and our GeoDog, Molly who often walks the family here: (And we make you visit in the dark.?.)
In the past ‘bodgers’ almost certainly would have worked in these woods, making the turned components (ie the legs, stretchers and spindles) of chairs which were assembled in High Wycombe and supplied the local chair industry.
The coordinates above will take you to the conservation area of Totteridge Common and to one entrance into the woods where your torch should enlighten you as to the path which will lead to what you desire; or at least another Tupperware box.
This is our first cache and was originally all setup for a late night spooky Halloween walk for our two daughters and three of their teenage friends. On that night we had also placed eight notes and a large poster from one of their scary video games, we followed behind with a few subtle sound effects – oh, and the final ‘cache’ was a small coffin! (Really wish we had filmed it).
Tonight you will be looking for a slightly less terrifying and scream inducing clip lock box, but there may still be a surprise in store.
Also, beware that you do not fall into a rather large trap on your stroll. It would be dell-ightfull if you would note in your log, your idea as to what could have caused it; we suggest a Woozle trap so Heffalumps beware!
Have fun, take care and enjoy!
