Geocache Description:

A simple off set multi along the old Tiverton railway line

In 1848 very close to the headline co-ords Tiverton Station was opened as a Terminus of a branch line from Tiverton Junction (which is at Willand (thanks to wheelybarrow for that little nugget of info)), in 1885 the station was moved a little further along the track (towards town), while the old station here was converted into a goods yard. The two sites and track was built and owned by Greast Western Railway.

In1964 the line was closed to passengers and then in 1967 closed completely by this time the station, goods yard and line was owned by British Railways (Western Region). Although i can not find any information about it, i suspect, Dr Beeching had something to do with it.

If you look behind you, just beyond the roundabout you will see Great Western way the main road into Tiverton, this used to be the area of the station and then the goods yard, the tarmac path in front of you (now NCR 3) is the route of the old track to Tiverton Junction.

I have been able to learn something of the history of the station and track from Chris the SideTracked Series Administrator So thank you Chris.

On to the cache(s) at the headline co-ordinates you are looking for a micro which is magnetic. This holds the final co-ordinates. Please be aware that you may get muggled here from all directions. The final is somewhere along the old track line which is now a national cycle route. The cache is a container and  once held a certain ompanys' chocolates. The cache holds some swops, and 1 swop very apt for the cache. The log book is inside a 35mm film pot within the larger container. Please bring your own pen. The path is wheelchair friendly, but users will need help to retrieve the 1st stage and final

After finding this cache you may like to carry on along the tarmac path to find the other 7 caches placed along the line by moortrekka & mrs, Bellatone and ABROO2 The whole line from here to AB & ROOs A Bridge Too Far (GC4YX5W) is tarmac and flat, although to get to AB & ROOs A Bridge Too Far you will need to go up the steps and on to the road.
