Geocache Description:

Fancy a Walk?

A pretty good place to go for a walk, is here in pretty Inistioge. Close to this cache the South Leinster Way and the Nore Valley Walk cross each other and there is a choice of directions in which a person can ramble. As a matter of fact, the South Leinster Way is also designated as part of the European Long Distance Walking Trail E8.

Believe it or not this path goes from Dursey in West Cork to Istanbul in Turkey! A not inconsiderable 4700km. The Irish path which runs from Dursey Head to Dun Laoghaire has the reputation as being one of the toughest sections. It takes in most of the Beara Way, a section of the Kerry Way as well as the entire Duhallow, Avondhu, East Munster, South Leinster and Wicklow Ways. Overall it is 603 kilometres in length and involves over 22,500 metres of ascent and descent.

Closer to home you have the choice of two looped walks around the Woodstock Estate, now under the stewardship of Coillte. The shorter Blue Walk at approx 3km and the longer Red walk at approx 10km. I have placed caches around both loops at interesting points. If you undertake the longer Red walk it is possible to pass through Woodstock Gardens without the need to pay. It's four Euro to use the carpark but walkers can pass through freely. If the back gate is locked a little bit of sideways thinking will get you in.

This beautiful village is the home to Woodstock House and Gardens, information on which can be found here.

The South Leinster Way passes up through the forest close to the gardens and onwards towards Glenpipe. The series is not intended to be a power trip and the caches won't necessarily be exactly 161m apart, but will be close enough.

The cache is a traditional hide near a tree stump. Keep an eye out for muggles.
