The first burial at Pine Hill Cemetery is presumed to have been in November 1896. The land where the old section of cemetery is located (near Master Street) was owned by I.N. & Amanda Bryant. A family passing through or visiting people here had a 3-year old daughter who died and they needed a place to bury her.
In early years there was no provision for perpetual care. In the mid-1950s a person in town passed away. Members of Corbin Kiwanis Club were friends of family and the group's members saw what poor shape the cemetery had gotten into. They took on cleanup of the cemetery as a community service project and solicited donations for the effort. They made a tremendous difference and decided to assume responsibility for future care.
In the early 1980s, the Club bought the unsold space and now operates this cemetery as a civic project, maintaining about 25 acres.
A lot of folks involved with the early history of Corbin (business & professional people) are buried here - including Fonzie Wilder, a World War I veteran for whom the Corbin American Legion Post is named.
