Geocache Description:

Welcome to “Sudbury's Historic And Revolutionary Places”... a.k.a. the SHARP Series!!!  This installment (and the listed coordinates) brings you to the entrance for the North Cemetery, which is the site of the original town center for the town of Sudbury.  You may be asking yourself… “What the heck is a Sudbury-themed hide doing over here in Wayland?!?”  Well, let me explain…

Sudbury Plantation, as it was known then, was settled in in 1638 and incorporated in 1639.  In 1780, the original town was split in two with the Sudbury River acting as the dividing line between Sudbury and East Sudbury.  East Sudbury was later named Wayland (in 1835).  So, you see, the area you are now standing in was once Sudbury!

Back in 1639, the area now known as the North Cemetery was designated as Sudbury’s first town center.  At the crest of the hill within the cemetery, there is a square boulder which signifies the approximate site of the original meeting house for the colonists.  The original meeting house measured 30’ x 20’.  It was replaced twice by successively larger meeting houses, the last of which was removed from the area in 1721.  It was in these early buildings where those early settlers celebrated religious services, settled disputes and held elections.  These “Town Meetings” were often mandatory and led to the rise of the town meeting form of government that still exists in many local towns today!

The North Cemetery is the oldest in the Sudbury/Wayland area and was used until 1716. Many of Sudbury's early settlers and prominent residents are buried here.  Among them, are thirty-five Minutemen who marched to Concord from Wayland.

To obtain the coordinates for the final, you only need to solve a quick field puzzle.  You will find everything you need located on the Meeting House Boulder located in the North Cemetery, which is located right next to the recommended parking area (coordinates for both are attached).  On the boulder, find the date/year that is mentioned on the second line of the plaque.  That year is ABCD.  Using the number substitutions, solve for the following:

A = _____

B = _____

C = _____

D = _____

E = _____ = (D – A)

F = _____ = (B + D)

G = _____ = (B / D)

H = _____ = (C – D – A)

J = _____ = (E + G + A)

K = _____ = (A + A)

After solving for the above, just plug them in below – and you’re off!

FINAL - N 42 EG.KDB, W 71 KE.AFH

You can walk to the final from here.  But, I’d recommend driving over instead.  You can park right next to the hide. Enjoy!

Congratulations to kestrel76 for the FTF!
