Geocache Description:

It was here in the early 1960’s that a pair of formidable guns watched over the bay. Unfortunately today the remains of these guns have since been removed to make way for development, however it is evident that this was a great choice for a view point of the bay and watch over all the ships entering and exiting.

This cache is located along the beach between Walvis Bay and Long beach. One point of entry will be at the parking area nearest to Bird Island to the south of the cache. Another access point would be at the new housing development (Aphrodite Beach). It is possible to reach the area surrounding the cache with a 4x4, however the ecosystem here is delicate and so it is not recommended to stray of the existing tracks. Another option if not approaching with 4x4 would be to take a nice walk across the dunes along which the last evidence of the old railway line can faintly be seen as dark stones along the ridges of the dunes. Following these tracks lead you slowly to the top of these dunes and to the new housing development.

Take a stroll down from the high dunes and head for the beach. The cache is hidden above the high water mark on the beach. Keep a look out for dolphins close to the shore and the few flamingoes that rest here.
