Hitachi-Momoyama station site
There was a 40-kilometer railway connecting between Tsuchiura and Iwase stations in the old days. It is said that trains running against a background of Mt. Tsukuba were popular among the railway fans. However, the railway was abolished in 1987 unfortunately. The railway site has been now reused as a cycling path called Tsukuba Rin-Rin road. The road is now used for recreation healthfully. Of course, it is also used for daily life such as commuting and shopping.
You will see an old platform as the station site around the listed coordinates. When you go ahead to Tsuchiura station along the Rin-Rin road, there is the place where the photograph below was taken. Please compare Fig. 1 and the scene carefully. Because a row of cherry trees is planted, you will enjoy cherry-blossom viewing in spring. Please go ahead to Tsuchiura station along the Rin-Rin road again about 0.1 miles. You will see the regular-sized geocache around there. Let's say hello willingly if local people talk to you during a search.

常陸桃山駅跡
かつて土浦駅と岩瀬駅を結ぶ全長40キロほどの筑波鉄道がありました。筑波山を背景に田園のなかを走る列車は人気があったそうです。しかし残念ながら1987年に廃止されました。そして廃線跡地は、つくばりんりんロードと呼ばれる県道501号桜川土浦自転車道線となりました。今では健康で快適なレクリエーションの場として、また通勤・通学・買い物などの日常生活に使われる自転車道となっています。
さて、表示の座標はむかし常陸桃山駅があった場所です。この駅は最初は伊佐々駅として開業しましたが戦時中に廃止されました。そして1957年に常陸桃山駅として再開されましたが、1987年に筑波鉄道とともに廃止され現在に至ります。いまはプラットフォームの跡があります。駅跡からりんりんロードを土浦方面へ少し進むとFig.1の写真を撮った場所があります。ここは春は桜並木がたいへんきれいなところです。そこからさらにりんりんロードを土浦方面に0.1マイルくらい進んだところにキャッシュを設置しています。探索中に地元の人に話しかけられれば快くあいさつしましょう。
