The Tornado Tower, also called the QIPCO Tower, is a skyscraper in Doha, Qatar. The iconic building is 200 meters tall with 52 floors. Construction started in 2006 and was completed in 2008.
The project involved several innovative design features requiring special consideration, including an advanced vertical transportation system with 23 lifts with destination control and speeds up to 7.5 m/s. The steel structure and facade changes shape and angle slightly on every floor of the tower - this was important in overall design and implementation.
The hyperboloid shape of the tower is intended to represent a desert whirlwind, hence the name "Tornado Tower". The lighting system can be animated to make the tower seem to be swirling like a tornado.
Enjoy the view of the West Bay skyscrapers on your way to the cache location. The garden surrounding the Tornado Tower is beautiful; it features different plant species (identified by name tags) and beautiful marble blocks in a bed of pebbles. Take a stroll to the cluster of marble blocks at the north western side of the garden (there are 7 clustered together); sit on the one at the curb side and admire the Tornado Tower. This marble block holds the key!
