How Geocaching Works

Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

Geocache Description:

The cache is at the posted coordinates. This is a challenge cache so you must meet the challenge before you can claim it as a find.  Please, feel free to sign the cache log even before you qualify, if you like, and post a note.  But, do not post a find until you qualify.  Have fun qualifying for it and finding the container.

This cache challenge is a cross between Dominos and the game “Six degrees of Kevin Bacon”. Rules:

  • In your online “Found It” log, please include a list of caches that qualify you for this challenge cache. I'd prefer you don’t use a bookmark list.
  • Beginning with the name of your first geocaching.com find and ending with the name of your last milestone find (according to geocaching.com), make a chain with names of geocaches that you have found, that have words in common.  Include the GC number and your find date.
  • The words must be spelled the same, if one is possessive, the other one must be.  If one word is singular, the next one must be.  You may not link if one word is just part of the other word.  For example, “the” is part of the word “speleothems” but they do not form a true link.
  • The link words cannot be re-used as another link.
  • You may not use caches in a series to create multiple links.
  • You must have a minimum of 6 caches named (5 links) and a maximum of 12 caches named (11 links). Why? Cause that’s what I decided.
  • Please highlight the link words.
  • For you over achievers out there, go ahead and try to make the domino chain in the order that you found them.  For that you can earn bonus points and my admiration.

Below is an example of my domino chain.  Because I am way behind on logging, my last milestone shown on geocaching.com is my find #2000.  My example has 10 caches (9 links).

1st find:  Pinnacles Sci-Fi Book Box, GCJGYM,  10/10/2004
             The Book Store, GCV68N,  6/6/2014
It's the year of the Dog - Come Join us!!, GCRM8P,  1/14/2006
12 Days of Christmas #8: Rowlf the Dog, GC1JKPA,  1/1/2009
Christmas in Bear Valley, GC15069,  8/11/2007
             Bear River Bridge, GC1FBT9,  8/31/2008
             Shoreline #19: A View to a Bridge , GC19WM5, 10/24/2013
             What a Cool view, GC3HFJY,  9/5/2013
            49 off 49: The Cool Challenge, GC42FBX,  12/1/2013
Find #2000: Millennium Milestones Challenge, GC2TPCC,  11/11/2013

Okay, I am an over achiever so I spent a little more time and made my chain in chronological order.  I guess I get bonus points and my own admiration.  Yeah, that’s what I’m talking about!

Have Challenge Caches  Jumped the Shark? Challenge, GC39KNN, 10/27/2013
Find #2000, Millennium Milestones Challenge, GC2TPCC,  11/11/2013

I had a goal for 2014 of hiding caches on days when the month and date match.  I hid one cache on 1/1, two caches on 2/2, three caches on 3/3, and so on.  It was hard work but I was able to keep it up all year.   This is one of my twelve December hides.  Thanks to all the cachers who have found my caches and sent messages of support and praise.
