The original Christ Church Down Street building was erected in 1865 as a new parish church for this corner of Mayfair.
The church is a hidden treasure with many stained glass windows which if you are lucky and the light is right show many biblical scenes, something that is becoming a little rarer these days!
The congregation and the building surroundings have varied enormously over the years.
At the beginning of her married life, Mary, Princess Royal (daughter of George V) attended this church, and her letters record her enormous affection for the congregation here.
The church was closed in the 1990s until a new congregation launched a few years ago.
Christ Church Mayfair reopened in January 2001
As with many churches in London access is not always available, in fact it is rare out of scheduled services.
