Day Four
Dear Nuala,
You mustn't have received my last letter when you were sending us the four calling birds.
There was pandemonium in the pear-tree again last night and the vet's bill was £32.
The mother is on sedation as I write.
I know you meant no harm and remain your close friend.
Gobnait
(Christmas Countdown, 1982)
The song 'Twelve Days of Christmas' is an English Christmas carol first published in 1780 in England.
The standard tune now associated with the song is derived from a 1909 arrangement of a traditional folk melody by English composer Frederic Austin.
In 1982, actor Frank Kelly released a single 'Christmas Countdown', which was a comedy song based on the well-known carol. The song reached number 8 in the Irish charts.
