Flood Control (Marlborough - Blenheim) Traditional Cache

Cache is located near the flood control gates in the stopbank between the Wairau River and Spring Creek.  The crystal clear waters of Spring Creek flow through here, and there are a couple of walkways through the Spring Creek Reserve.

Please take care with young children as there is deep flowing water in the creek.

Spring creek flows at an almost constant rate and temperature year round, being spring fed from nearby farmland.  This is an excellent Brown Trout fishery, and offers very challenging fishing.  Fish can often be seen in the pools from the walkway along the creek.  Fresh water fishing license is required.

At the time of placement it is not possible to travel beyond SH 1 along the bank of spring creek, due to track damage.  Access is possible from Spring Creek township, or along the Wairau River from the SH1 Bridge, past the gravel works.  This area is a popular swimming spot in the summer, and yes you can cross the river if the flow is low enough.
