Geocache Description:

The world will commemorate until 2018 the centenary of the First Wold War also Known as the Great War.

The port of Southampton was the main embarkation point for the British Expeditionary Force soldiers leaving UK for the western front in France and Flanders at the beginning of 1914.

Through this Geocache you will discover one of the historical places that connects Southampton with the First World War, specifically the role of Southampton Docks during the war. You will also find out about the ‘Old Contemptibles’ and why this location is important in their history. Finally You will see one of the historical buildings of Southampton: the former Docks’ Post Office and Telegraph building, dating from 1902.

Once you have put together the three ‘clues’: location, the building and the Old Contemptibles; the position of the cache container is easy to guess.

See attached picture of the area in 1912 for helping with location.
