nineball: On 15th December 2016, Curacao Winery will be closed and therefore the cache will be archived.

This winery enabled the first wine ever in the Carribean and it was very well received by wine lovers, however the owners were not allowed to proceed with their activities due to increased risk of birdstrikes @the nearby airport.

Geocache Description:

Een eenvoudige traditional geocache bij landhuis Hato. Tegenwoordig bekend als Curacao Winery.

An easy traditional geocache near Hato mansion. Nowadays known as Curacao Winery.

Landhuis Hato/Hato mansion

De plantage Hato is tot 1792 in bezit geweest van de West-Indische Compagnie. In de 18e eeuw is het landhuis gebruikt als buitenverblijf van de directeur van de Compagnie. Met zijn 1400 ha. was de plantage een van de grootste van het eiland. Hato stond bekend om een bron waarvan het water gebruikt werd voor irrigatie.

De watervoorziening, het glooiende terrein en het historische landhuis bleek een uitstekende lokatie voor de wijnteelt en een proeverij met het terras uitkijkend over de wijngaard. Sinds 2014 heeft plantage Hato dan ook een nieuwe bestemming gekregen: Curacao winery.

The Hato plantage was untill 1792 owned by the 'West Indian Company. In he 18th century, the mansion is used as holiday home for of the director of the Company. With the size of 1400 ha, the plantage was one of the biggest of the island. Hato was famous because of the well which could be used for irrigation.

The well, the hillside and the historical mansion appeared to be the perfect location for a winery with a nice terrace looking over the wineyard. Since 2014 the mansion got a new destiny: Curacao winery.
