One of the members of this caching team wanted to welcome in the New Year in Moscow, Russia, to be exact. The other member said "No way, way too far east". So, a compromise was settled upon, and the destination of Odessa, which is part of the Ukraine, and celebrates the New Year one full hour later was selected.
