Geocache Description:

Looking for a medium sized bottle. Can hold small trade items. Bring your own pen. Perfect for first time Geocachers. This is my first Mystery Cache, so hope all goes well!

John Clinton Miller is my 2nd Great Grand Uncle. He married 16-yr-old, Bloomer Victory Dunn in Cannon, TX, in 1901. Nothing is really known about his life, except he was a farmer. Nothing really exists from his life (that I know of) except an old colorized tin-type photo (see gallery), the 1900 census, and his marriage license to Bloomer. I wanted to create a cache in memory of an ancestor I wish I had known. The first coords will lead you to the gates of the Cannon Cemetery, then you will use clues to find their headstone, then more clues to find the cache. The final step has you driving from the cemetery a good mile and a half down the road past John's old house where the cache is hidden. Good luck.

Coords to final cache:

N33 24.(ABC)

W096 32. (DEF)

1.) Standing under the Cannon Cemetery sign, walk straight ahead, up the small hill. If you go past the historical marker, you went too far. John is buried next to his father, J. W. Miller. You cannot miss his tombstone. I counted roughly 40-50 steps. Headstone is on the left side.

2.) You found John and Bloomer's tombstone. Congrats! Take the last three digits of the year John died, and subtract 328. The three digit answer is, "ABC."

3.) Take the last three digits of Bloomer's death, and subtract 737. The three digit answer is, "DEF."

4.) Use the cords, drive down the road a good bit. There is parking available near the cache. I wish I could have hid the final cache at the old Miller house, unfortunately it's private property, and I don't know the people who live there. Thankfully, I do know someone who lives on this road, and doesn't care about placing a Geocache near his fence. I might have to move this one during the summertime when all the leaves are swept up. So far, it's well hidden. Coming back from the cache, when you reach HWY 121, you will see the remodeled farmhouse where John used to live as a teenager with his younger brother James (See James and Delia: GC5HEC4).

Please don't use Google search to find John and Bloomer's death dates, and skip the cemetery part. That's cheating, and you're not earning a Mystery Cache.

**'John and Bloomer's Cache' is part 3 of a series of Geocaches hidden around the Van Alstyne area dedicated to my ancestors.
