Geocache Description:

This series of caches is a tribute to two ladies named Silverheels.

The first was a beautiful and mysterious lady who appeared one day in a Colorado mining town in 1861 and started her career as a dancer and singer.  When a smallpox epidemic fell upon the town, citizens fled leaving only a few to tend the sick – one of which was Silverheels.  She was like an angel of mercy traveling from cabin to cabin administering food, medicine and comfort to the sick.  There are many ledgends surrounding her but one that stands out is as follows:

In gratitude, the town took up a collection for Silverheels – a very impressive $5000.00.  Upon reaching her cabin, the award committee found nobody.  There was a pair of silver dancing slippers left on the table.

No one heard or saw her again although there are rumors of a mysterious cloaked and veiled figure seen late at night visiting the local cemetery.

The second Silverheels also hails from Colorado and has done much to further geocaching in both her home state and around the Quartzsite area which she calls home in the Winter.

As usual, please help us maintain good relations with the BLM by staying on the trails and respecting the desert.
