Throughout most of the United States, the black snake is a common find when off the beaten path. This non-venomous snake has many names - from a rat snake (known for its diet of small rodents, frogs, or lizards) to a Racer (due to its speed when moving). Typically, the snake will vary from 20" to 60" in length and can be upto 1.5" in diameter. But then, this is Texas and everything is bigger.
This black snake stretches for twelve miles and is forty or more inches in diameter. Don't let its unmoving position fool you - this is often a ploy to draw unsuspecting victims into striking distance. As you look for this hidden cache, keep an eye on that black snake. Don't become mesmerized and get pulled into those beady eyes that could surface. We don't need another "snake attach on local geocacher" in the news.
Good luck. And be sure to cache with a friend you can outrun just in case.
Note: No snakes were harmed in the making of this cache. Maybe.
