Breve passeggiata per i vicoli di Cerveteri verso le antiche mura che si affacciano in posizione panoramica sulla costa.

Rocca Cybo corrisponde alle mura cittadine del lato meridionale. Restaurata nel XIII secolo essa comprendeva tre torri circolari collegate tra loro da camminamenti lungo il coronamento degli edifici. Nel 1485, durante la guerra tra Ferdinando di Napoli e il papa Innocenzo VIII, Cerveteri viene saccheggiata dalla truppe napoletane, ingenti sono i danni arrecati alle fortificazioni. Nel 1487 quando Franceschetto Cybo, figlio di Innocenzo VIII, prende possesso del castello si restaurano le mura della rocca nella parte del parte a sud – ovest del paese detta “Boccetta”. A questo intervento appartengono le attuali strutture. L’area è detta localmente della “Rocca Antica” ed è stata per lunghissimo tempo chiusa al pubblico perché pericolante, i lavori di riqualificazione, iniziati a metà dagli anni ottanta, si sono finalmete conclusi (2011), restituendo alla collettività questo spettacolare punto panoramico sulla costa dell’Etruria merdionale da Civitavecchia fino a Roma. Per i romantici si consiglia il tramonto.

The fortress is situated in the southern part of the city walls. In the XIII century it was restored. It had three circular towers linked together by passageways on top of the buildings. In 1485, during the war between Ferdinand of Naples and the Pope Innocent the VIII, Cerveteri was sacked by the neapolitan troops, with consequent major disruption to the fortifications. In 1487 when Franceschetto Cybo, son of Innocent the VIII, got the ownership of the castle, he will restored the walls on the southern-west part known as “Boccetta”. The current structures belong to this renovation. Nowodays the area is known as “Rocca Antica” and for a long time it has been closed to the public because it was unstable. New works started in the’80s and ended in 2011 giving back to the town this spectacular lookout to Etruria’s southern coast from Civitavecchi to Rome.
