Reach the dam from any of the four trailheads and proceed south to the Southern Path Trailhead to reach an unblazed trail that runs south of the lake. You will have to walk off the trail to reach GZ, where a few boulders and remnants of a really old campsite are. Camping is not allowed at Lake Fitzgerald, but the campsite seems to be much older than 10 years old, making it a type of artifact of time here. You are looking for a quite small lock-and-lock.
One geocacher, gc2002 or Don placed a lot of really neat geocaches in the area. Most have been archived, most were in remote locations, and one still is at the northern tip of all of FLCA because of its popularity as a unique and isolated geocache. Don had a geocache in this very exact same spot, but it was a much more obvious find as it was an ammo can that was too big for its hiding spot. In dedication to Don's geocaches, I have replicated his hide with a much more disguisable container. See GC5FC3 for the original cache hidden here in June of 2002.
Good Luck! Happy Caching!
