Urban legend has it... (or rather the teenagers of Maypearl)... Say that Tranquilla McCain is the "Witch of Maypearl." Tranquilla was the wife to Mr. Peter McCain and they had had 10 children, 5 boys and 5 girls. The story has it that her husband cheated on her, and she killed him, and they found her guilty for it and hung her. She and her husband are buried underneath this tree, and the side of the tree Tranquilla is buried on, is dead. The other side is alive. The cemetary is on private property and is surrounded by a very high fence. There are scattered graves throughout this piece of property, and there is a small section at the front of the property by the fence that is chain-linked off. This is said to be all babies and children in this graveyard.
