Geocache Description:

The RC Church of Ss Joseph and Etheldreda was built in 1849 by Charles Hansom, during a time of Catholic Revival.  The spire, which was added in 1868, is an impressive 75ft, and the weathercock that tops it can be seen all over the town.  The spire contains a circular staircase consisting of 99 steps.

When the church was built it was decorated in vibrant colours and patterns, as was the style at that time; however, such patterns gradually fell from popularity over the years and the church interior walls were repeatedly covered with layer upon layer of neutrally coloured emulsion in an attempt to keep it clean and lower the maintenance.  In 2010, it was restored to its former glory by Tony Skidmore, who painstakingly peeled away the emulsion and gave the parish back its beautiful church.

The cache contains only a log - please bring your own pen.

If anybody would like to expand  this series please do, I would just ask that you could let Sadexploration know first at churchmicro@gmail.com so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication.
There is also a Church Micro Stats & Information page found via the Bookmark list
