Geocache Description:

In 1972 the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) adopted an International Treaty called the Convention concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage. UNESCO’s mission to protect and preserve significant cultural and natural heritage extends to many activities such as:
Encourage countries to sign the World Heritage Convention
Emergency assistance to safeguard properties in danger
Long term conservation of World Heritage Properties
Help the States/Parties in management planning and reporting on their properties
Technical assistance and professional training to help safeguard the World Heritage properties
Public and youth education and awareness-building
To be included on the World Heritage List, sites must be of outstanding universal value and meet at least one out of ten selection criteria. Since 1978, 1007 properties were listed as World Heritage sites. The sites are all over the world in almost every country but are generally broken into regions.
More information about the list including an interactive map can be found at (visit link) From the map, you can select the properties and learn about the significance of each and why they were included on the list.
Placement of this geocache has been approved by Rob Rossmanith, Park Biologist. Please remember, all wheels off the paved road when parking. Do not block any gates or trailheads, and follow the posted speed limits
