
It was the buffalo that first brought us here.
But they are disappearing, quickly, and the land is being covered with speckled cattle in their place. They are dying ingloriously, taken down in large numbers, left to rot in the prairie sun, their hides and tongues removed, their bones eventually gathered by others to be turned into fertilizer.
But for a time, from the very beginning until now, this was their domain, and we thrived alongside them, taking what we needed.
And soon, only a few will remain, and everything here will be different.
