To reach the Coyote Hills, begin by parking at the suggested location. Follow the Baril Trail for a few hundred meters, then drop down and ford or cross Baril Creek. Connect up to the posted waypoint where you can pick up a lightly flagged route. This route takes you to an open slope. Climb to the top of the slope, or sidestep west to a small treed drainage. Follow a ridge west up to the rather uninteresting false summit - this is just a bald hill. You will need to lose some elevation, but your goal is right ahead of you to the west. Take steep open slopes up to the summit ridge, then head a few hundred meters along this ridge to the summit. Note: This is the direct route. It does require a little elevation loss. There may be an alternative route that circumvents the false summit, saving this elevation. This will require more distance, however.
IMPORTANT NOTE FOR WINTER TRAVELLERS: Although this cache is winter friendly, this area is in avalanche terrain. The steep eastern lee slopes of the summit ridge will be wind loaded and may be a significant hazard under unfavourable conditions. Keep this is mind if you plan to travel in the winter.
As always, come prepared for this trip and bring a friend as there is no cell phone reception and everything is off trail. There is a spoiler picture for winter travellers or those who wish to make the find easier. Good luck!
