Nova Scotia's only Totem Pole
Located on the McQueen Trail in the Whycocomagh Provincial Park, is the final resting place of this Totem Pole of the Tsimshian Peoples (Tsim-she-yan, meaning "People of the Skeena") of British Columbia, given to the peoples of Nova Scotia by B.C. on their centennial of entering confederation with Canada in 1971. After 37 years on display at the Port Hastings Tourism Bureau, Atlantic weather had taken it's toll on this proud totem making it structurally unsound. In keeping with Tsimshian tradition, it is to "return to the earth" once fallen.
