Historical Information:
Built 1818 by Ainsley Hall the house was first owned by legendary fighter of the American Revolution Wade Hampton. His grandson Wade Hampton II was a Civil War general and state governor. When the Union Troops invaded General J.A. Logan made this his headquarters. Logan was prepared to burn the house upon his departure, but the Sisters of the Ursaline Convent asked Sherman to allow them to move into the house since their convent had been burned—a request he granted.
