Historical Information:
This cannon defended the city of Charleston from 1863 until the end of the Civil War in 1865. This cannon can shoot a 10” ball weighing 104 pounds. When the Union took control this cannon along with many others and iron rail from nearby train tracks were loaded onto the ship Georgianna to be re-foundered. The ship hit rough seas and sank off the coast near Georgetown, SC. In 2000 this cannon was recovered from that wreckage. The museum continues many genuine artifacts used in the Civil War as well. Admission is free so you should check them out.
