In the Vine Street Hill Cemetery, if you wander around and pays attention to what you see, you will notice many headstones that belong to those who have joined our armed forces to protect what we hold close to our hearts over the many years. We would like to honor all of those unsung heroes over the many wars that were fought in our history.
Here in this cemetery we have found veterans from several wars.
The above coordinates will take you to Adam Zeisler who was a German immigrant that so believed in the union cause he joined and fought for the Union forces (Civil War). You can see his grave stone at these coordinates. You may what to bring a German dictionary for his tombstone is engraved in German.
We have found Walter Frauman, a Veteran of the Spanish American war. His marker can be found at N 39 09.188 W084 30.657.
There are many veterans from the Korean War, WWI, and WWII.
There was one veteran of WWI we would like to take special note of. That would be Charles R. D’Olive. His marker can be found at these coordinates, N 39 09.457 W 084 30.492. What makes him remarkable is that he was one of the few Flying Aces of WWI.
Another remarkable soldier we have found that was buried in Vine Street Hill Cemetery is that of Edward William Boers. His marker can be found at these coordinates, N 39 09.365 W 084 30.398. What makes this gentleman remarkable he is one of the few veterans that was given a Peacetime Congressional honor medal for his bravery and actions when his ship’s the USS Bennington boiler exploded.
We are sure there are many more unsung heroes located around these grounds each having their own story to tell. We would have liked to have placed a cache honoring each one of those veterans but with the limited space we have decided to honor them all with one cache. We hope you take your time and while you wander these hills of the cemetery you give thanks and honor these vets.
To find the final cache location you need the Death year of Adam Zeisler.
