There is 42,180 sq. miles in the state of Tennessee. Tennessee ties with Missouri as being the most neighborly state in the Union. It is bordered by 8 states. They are: Kentucky, Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas and Missouri.
