Immediately to the front of the castle, on the public roadway, lies a marker denoting the boundary of Youghal Urban District Council and Cork County Council, commencing in 1899 until the dissolution of town councils in 2014.
Previously, Youghal had the much grander status of a Chartered Town Corporation. A walk around the town affords many opportunities to absorb the ancient history of the area.
