Minnis Woodland is classified by Michigan State University as a Category I Area, meaning that it is a Natural area managed at the highest level of protection and lowest level of usage. It is a 5 acre mixed aged stand including very large sugar maple and beech. Other trees include basswood and white and swamp white oak. A major portion of the woods was cleared for bee hives and a log cabin formerly used for girls' physical education, now for storage of bee keeping equipment. Pedestrian travel shall be the only allowable mode of transport in any campus natural area.
