Geocache Description:

The Town of Canmore has a wonderful public art collection. Public art adds greatly to the enjoyment of walking or biking through a community. So grab your bike or put on your hikers and take this tour through Canmore. The tour starts with Touchstone, in front of the enterance to Elevation Place. It is suggested you leave your vehicle here and you will circle back to it at the end of the tour.

Stage 1 - At the posted coordinates. Touchstone is an example of community participation in the creation of public art, as community members provided artifacts that were incorporated into the piece.  Find the artifact that contains "Banff National Park" and the year 193X.  X = A.  Or count the number of birds on the stainless steel section the first digit of the two digit number is X.  X + 3 also = A.

Stage 2 - Behind Ceannmore is a wayfinding post with directions on it.  The first digit in the distance to Policeman's Creek = B.

Stage 3 - The first digit in the year of Isabelle's death = C

Stage 4 - This piece of public art commemorates the 19XY Olympics.  X - Y = D

Stage 5 -  The number of letters in the name of this piece - last digit in the year of installation = E

The final is at the following coordinates:  N 51.04.ABC  W 115.21.DED   The cache container is actually a piece of art, scultped for me by a friend.  And the location may inspire you to create your own art, with a sketch pad or camera, with a creekside location and views of the Three Sisters. There is also a picnic table very close by, so bring a snack or a lunch or a book and enjoy the peaceful location in the heart of Canmore.

After completing the cache, take note that as of Dec 2014 there is a brand new pedestrian bridge crossing Spring Creek that will take you through the Spring Creek Community, to the bridge on the far side (beside the Old Opera House) that crosses Policeman's Creek and will bring you very close to your starting point at Elevation Place.

Please be sure to include in your log which piece of art you liked best and why.

The distance you will cover to complete this multi is approximately 4.5 km. The time to complete by walking is approximately 1.5 hours to 2 hours, depending on amount of time spent gathering info, taking photos, etc.

NOTE: The original container, a hand-carved wood forest gnome, disappeared the day the cache was published and has been replaced with a regular camo geocaching container.
