AACC Thursday, January 2015 style. The second meeting of the group in 2015. Don't even think about showing up if your Christmas tree is still up, your lights are still turning on in the evening on your rooftop, or if your garland is not put away. (If you are the founding father of the AACC, this does not apply to you!) If you are supposed to be back at some state university in some mid-western state, don't loiter here! There will be no pawning off unused eggnog! I am not decorating the location, even though Ground Hog Day is only a few weeks away. Suck it up, buttercup! Welcome to winter in Hampton Roads!
It is once again my turn to guest host the event, my sixth gig! This is becoming like being the guest host on Saturday Night Live, which has a celebrated "Five-Timers Club". My musical guest for this time is Cameramoose, 2112Rush (someone has to hit the high notes), Shonda and Lacey will be backing her up. For giggles, here is the list of the Five-Time guest hosts from SNL:
15. Paul Simon - 4 times (he was a musical guest for his fifth appearance and he was in both Five-Timers Club sketches)
14. Ben Affleck - 5 times
13. Bill Murray - 5 times
12. Justin Timberlake - 5 times
11. Candace Bergen - 5 times
10. Danny DeVito - 6 times
9. Elliott Gould - 6 times
8. Drew Barrymore - 6 times
7. Christopher Walken - 7 times
6. Tom Hanks - 8 times
5. Chevy Chase - 8 times
4. Buck Henry - 10 times
3. John Goodman - 13 times
2. Steve Martin - 15 times
1. Alec Baldwin - 16 times
The AACC is the brainchild of "Papa" from SNAP, a local geo-legend and autobiographical geograffitist, who began this tradition during August of 2013. In August, 2013, Groundspeak ran a Challenge “31 Days of Geocaching” to get people to find a cache every day of the month. For each day found, cachers were awarded a souvenir. "Papa" came up with an idea to run a daily, weekday event to allow people to pick up an “Event” find during the work week. Because we formed a little support group at AACC events, Papa decided to make this an ongoing thing. Approximately every two weeks or so we are getting together to swap stories, plan trips and outings, trade trackables and maybe provide each other with tips and intel on caches in the area.
Come on out and meet some local cachers. It is a chance to take a moment with friends in a random parking lot (OK, you know that the rotating band of hosts have their favorites) somewhere in the Tidewater area to get back in touch with your inner Geocacher.
