Breve historia de Trujillo Alto
El pueblo se fundó en el 1801 con el nombre de Santa Cruz de Trujillo pero parte de este territorio se deslindó en 1817 para construir Trujillo Bajo. En el año 1820, se le denomina al municipio como “Trujillo Alto” para diferenciarlo de Trujillo Bajo.
En el 1902, el municipio fue eliminado e incorporado a los barrios de Carolina por la Asamblea Legislativa de Puerto Rico bajo la Ley de Consolidación de Ciertos Términos Municipales. En 1905 fue derogada por una nueva Ley y se restituyó a Trujillo Alto como un municipio independiente. Se le conoce como el Pueblo de los Arrecostaos, La ciudad de los Manantiales, El Pueblo de las Ocho Calles, La Ciudad en el Campo y es el hogar de la represa Carraizo, la más importante de la Isla.
En el 1919, el ingeniero Félix Rexach Benítez construye un puente de concreto sumergible para cruzar el Río Grande. Este puente fue destruido en la inundación que ocurrió en el 1936. En el 1939 se construyó el puente de acero, el más largo de la isla con un solo tramo cruzando el Río Grande de Loiza y fue inagurado en el 1941. Este puente mide 102.3 metros de longitud y un ancho de 7 metros.
El puente histórico de acero sirvió de escenario a la bienvenida de los militares de Trujillo Alto, los cuales participaron en la guerra de Corea, bajo el Regimiento 65 de Infantería.

Brief history of Trujillo Alto
The town was founded in 1801 with the name of Santa Cruz de Trujillo. But part of this territory was delimited in 1817 to build Trujillo Bajo. In 1820, it is called the municipality as "Trujillo Alto" to distinguish him from Trujillo Bajo.
In 1902 the municipality was removed and incorporated into the neighbourhoods of Carolina by the Legislature of Puerto Rico under the Act of Consolidation of Certain Municipal Terms. In 1905 was repealed by a new law and Trujillo Alto reinstated as an independent municipality. It is known as the Town of Learners, The City of Springs, The Town with Eight Streets, The City in the Country and is home to the Carraizo Dam, the most important of the Island dam.
In 1919 the engineer Felix Benitez Rexach builds a waterproof concrete bridge to cross the Rio Grande. This bridge was destroyed in the flooding that occurred in 1936. In 1939 steel bridge was built, the longest of the island with one leg across the Rio Grande de Loiza and was inaugurated in 1941. This bridge is 102.3 meters long and a width of 7 meters.
The historic steel bridge was the stage to welcome Trujillo Alto’s servicemen, which participated in the Korean War, under the 65th Infantry Regiment.
