σκέφτεστε μάλλον
το νησάκι που
είναι μόνο 200 μ.
πλάτος και 400 μ.
μήκος και βρίσκεται
στα βόρεια του
Κόλπου Μιραμπέλλου:
το μέρος της
αποικίας λέπρας
μέχρι το 1957, που
γνωρίζει καθένας
Έλληνας τουλάχιστον
από την σειρά
"Το Νησί" στο
MEGA.
Όμως, δεν είναι
μόνο το όνομα
εκείνου του
νησιού αλλά
και της μεγαλύτερης
χερσονήσου
που βρίσκεται
στα νότια του.
Είναι βενετικό
όνομα που σημαίνει
"μακρύ αγκάθι"
(spina
longa).
Αν βλέπετε το
σχήμα του, δεν
ταιριάζει αυτό
το όνομα καλύτερα
με τη χερσόνησο;
Λοιπόν,
η "Volta
Spinalonga"
με εννιά κρύπτες
σας πάει στη
χερσόνησο Σπιναλόγκα!
θα είναι μάλλον
πεζοπορία παρά
βόλτα. Οπωσδήποτε
θα κάνετε κύκλο
γύρω στην Σπιναλόγκα.
Η
πεζοπορία θέλει
πάνω κάτω τέσσερις
ώρες και θα
ξεκινάτε από
το πάρκινγκ δίπλα
στους ανεμόμυλους.
Θα βρείτε οκτώ
κρύπτες στο
δρόμο μέχρι να
φτάσετε στην
κρύπτη „Kolokytha“,
που έκρυψαν οι
geocacher
„wind&water“
ήδη
το 2012. Από 'κει θα
περπατάτε στα
άνετα μονοπάτια
και χωματόδρομους
πίσω στο πάρκινγ.

να πάνε αμέσως

The name
SPINALONGA is used for the little island which is only 200 x 400 m
lying in the north of the Mirabello Bay and which has been one of the
last leper colonies in Europe, closed in 1957. The true name of
this little island is Kalydon. Southerly of it you will find the
peninsula which had originally the name SPINALONGA. The name came
from Venetian times and means "Spina Longa" = long thorn,
which fits to the shape of the peninsula.
This series "Volta
Spinalonga" will lead you in a circular walk around the
peninsula. The Greek word Volta (Βόλτα)
means stroll or walk as well as rounds. This Volta will be rather a
little more than a stroll, but anyway you will do your rounds around
Spinalonga.
The walk - about four
hours - starts at the parking at the windmills of Elounda and the 8
caches will lead you to the cache „Kolokytha“, which the
geocachers „wind&water“ did already hide in 2012.
From there you will have a walk on comfortable footpaths and gravel
roads back to the parking.

For
your return to the car, you may follow the given waypoints „Return
1“, „Return 2“ und „Return 3“. They
will lead you 3 km back to the car at the windmills using slightly
comfortable footpaths and gravel roads.

Meist wird mit
Spinalonga die kleine, nur 200 x 400 m große Insel im Norden
der Mirabello-Bucht bezeichnet, die noch bis 1957 eine der letzten
Leprakolonien Europas war. Doch heißt diese eigentlich Kalydon
und die südlich davon liegende größere Halbinsel ist
die eigentliche Spinalonga. Der Name stammt aus venezianischer Zeit:
spina longa = langer Dorn. Und das passt ja wohl auch von der Form
her gut zu der Halbinsel, auf der wir mit dieser Cache-Serie eine
Runde drehen wollen. Das griechische Wort Volta (Βόλτα)
bedeutet Spaziergang oder Runde. Die Volta Spinalonga wird wohl eher
eine Wanderung als ein Spaziergang werden, aber auf jeden Fall wird
es eine Runde rund um die Halbinsel Spinalonga.
Die Wanderung –
alles in allem gut vier Stunden – beginnt am Parkplatz an den
Windmühlen von Elounda und führt über acht Stationen
zu dem Cache „Kolokytha“, den die Geocacher „wind&water“
bereits 2012 ausgelegt haben. Von dort geht es dann zu Fuss auf guten
Wegen zurück zum Parkplatz.
