Geocache Description:

The Manufacturer’s Water Company was formed in 1900 by the Cambria Iron Company to supply water specifically for commercial and industrial uses separating it from the Johnstown Water Company, which then became focused on just domestic water supply.

The Hinckston Run Dam, with a 1 trillion gallon capacity, was the first reservoir they built for that supply.  Construction lasted from 1902 to 1905 with some of the workers living in shacks along this side of the lake.  The foundations for some of their shacks are reportedly still visible at locations along this hillside.  This spring was developed with a red brick spring box to supply water for these workers.

Based on its condition and location, it doesn’t appear to be used by anyone as a supply.  The water quality is not known.  The spring box remains, but the wall on the left side is loose.  Therefore, your final approach should be from the right.

This dam was reportedly overtopped during the 1977 Flood when its watershed received 12 inches of rain in eight hours. Unlike the Laurel Run Dam, in the valley to the west, it withstood, due to years of slag disposal by the Cambria Iron Company directly against its downstream face.

You may need to dip your toes to test the water before retrieving the cache. Please replace with brick holding it down and in place.
