The Scream painting by Edvard Munch is recognised by most people as this image of a person with a pale face has been used in many contexts around the world.
You may not know that artist Edvard Munch created four versions of the painting using different art mediums: oils, tempera and pastels. The Scream is part of a larger art collection called The Frieze of Life.
This intriguing masterpiece shows a genderless person with mouth open, hands on either side of the face, screaming, against the backdrop of a vibrant sunset. Two people stand with their backs to this tortured soul. In the distance there is a hint of a city almost lost in the swirling sky.
